 Feeding

Try to use a quality product, the cheaper the product the less digestible and you will end up with more on the ground when the dog has his constitutionals.
Experts recommend feeding puppies a puppy food especially large dog as their growth rate can be affected if fed adult dog food.

Wet versus dry; wet food has a high degree of moisture in it and there is no chewing action for the dog. Dry dog food can be moistened if the need be and can be purchased in larger quantities.
A raw diet versus dog food, there are different opinions on the two different methods, many raw diet users are switching back to packaged dog food.
Quality dog food is formulated for the dog, while the raw diet can create other problems such as availability of raw food, storage problems, keeping the food fresh, and the price can fluctuate with the market.
Dogs have adapted to many different types of food and the best food is always what is best for you and your dog, ensure to check the package and look for the ingredients, which are usually listed in descending order.
Try to buy a food that lists a meat source first, lamb, chicken, or meat. Supplementing the dog food with other table scraps or vitamins unless directed to do so by your veterinarian there is no need to as quality dog food has everything your dog needs. However a treat now and then is okay if that is what you want.
Be careful of dog foods that make certain claims, they may say that with their product the dog will have a shinny coat or heal quicker. If your dog has an all around diet and proper exercise and good training program then in many cases you will have a healthy dog.

Dogs can have allergies, so be careful on what other people give your dog or what your dog gets into.
Many dogs are over weight because the owners feel sorry for the dog or the dog begs, makes a sad face and the owner feels guilty.
In some cases the dog is not getting full at mealtime, so we can add some bulk to there food, unsweetened pumpkin has worked or unsweetened oatmeal, do not over do it.
Recommended feeding 1/3 of the meal should be the oatmeal or pumpkin.
At times a dogs hyper-ness can be attributed to the food, so you may have to try different brands to find the one that works for you and your companion.

Some tips: if your dog will not eat his regular food pick it up off the floor and feed him/her later.
A touch of water on the dry food will enhance the smell and make it more appealing to the dog.
Do not leave food out all day, 10-15 minutes to eat if the dog leaves the food bowl then take the food away.
Another method you can use in your training; at times you can feed the dog by hand: take the dry food with you then call the dog, when he comes praise him, pet him, then give him some of the food.
You do not always have to give him a handful of food every time he does what you want, keep him guessing. Do some investigating and find out whats best for you and yours.
